What is Pilates?

Pilates is a unique type of low-impact exercise developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. The movements focus on improving your flexibility, posture, breathing patterns and core strength. Pilates is an overall workout for the entire body, but targets your core – your abdominal area, back, hips, and inner and outer thighs. Joseph Pilates based the work on the six principles of Pilates: centering, control, flow, breath, precision, and concentration.

Core engagement, hip, torso, and pelvic alignment, balancing, and breathing are the main focus areas in Pilates. When practiced regularly, Pilates will strengthen your lower back, firm and tone your muscles, improve your body posture, enhance flexibility and coordination, and deliver an overall healthy feeling to you from within. In addition, Pilates has proven to be an effective rehabilitation technique for people recovering from injuries.

Commitment Delivers Results

Joseph Pilates, the original creator of Pilates said, “In 10 sessions you feel better, in 20 sessions you look better, and in 30 sessions, you will have a whole new body.” At Hilltop Pilates, we stand by this pledge. If you make a commitment to take a session at least once a week, your body will feel and operate differently.

Private Pilates Lessons with Myofascial Release Techniques

During private or duet sessions, we focus on individualized attention to ensure proper technique, safe movement, and effective injury rehabilitation. We’ll create a customized Pilates program for you, with each session tailored to your individual needs and goals.

Our boutique studio features high-quality Peak Pilates equipment, including a Reformer, Cadillac table, Wunda Chair, Spine Corrector, and various props for a full-body experience. A wall-mounted ballet barre is also available for stretching, balance work, and ballet-inspired movement training.

While our approach is grounded in Classical Pilates, we integrate modern movement techniques, often winding down sessions with assisted stretching and Myofascial release to support recovery and relaxation.
